Lego released 3 Ninjago themed spinner sets this year, 2022;
- Kai’s Spinjitzu Training (70688),
- Lyod’s Spinjitzu Training (70689),
- Jay’s Spinjitzu Training (70690)
The building of all the three sets is very similar. Only the building of accessories is different. You first build the figure, accessories, and finally, the spinner itself and its pull mechanism. Each set has around 30 pieces, and it only takes 10 minutes to build each one. Recommended age is 6+, but younger kids can also play with them after building. Our son couldn’t spin them on his first try, but he managed to do it later. Check it out here.
Lego had previously released some Ninjago Spinjitzu sets in 2019. All of them are retired now. These sets were;
- 70659 Spinjitzu Kai (97 pieces)
- 70660 Spinjitzu Jay (97 pieces)
- 70661 Spinjitzu Zane (109 pieces)
- 70662 Spinjitzu Cole (117 pieces)
- 70663 Spinjitzu Nya & Wu (227 pieces and includes 2 spinners)
- 70664 Spinjitzu Lloyd vs Garmadon (208 pieces and includes 2 spinners)
Although the previous models had more pieces, they didn’t contain a pull mechanism for spinning and spun using your finger motion. This makes them more difficult to spin for small kids. Also, they spin for a lot shorter period.
Jay’s accessory is a small, simple spinner without a pull mechanism. Kai’s main accessory is a stand on which you can spin the spinner. It may seem not possible at first, but it actually works. Just try to pull it a little slower so that spinner doesn’t jump out of the stand. You can also adjust the height of the stand. Loyd’s main accessories are bombs. Before spinning the Loyd, you place the bombs on the floor and try not to hit them. I think Kai’s stand is the winner among the accessories of 3 sets.
The figures are different than the other Ninjago figures we have, and I don’t remember seeing them in other Ninjago sets. This is good news if you are collecting Lego figures.
When spinning, try to hold it perpendicular to the floor so that it will not drift too much and hit the sides of the room. Also, try to keep it close to the ground as much as possible. How long it is gone spin depends on your pull force, the type of the floor, and how many times it will bump into the objects on the floor. You can easily achieve 30 seconds of spin time. I have managed to reach 55 seconds on marble.
These sets gave us half an hour of fun time this evening. We have competed on whose spinner will spin longer. Interestingly our son won.
